Lib Tech make some incredible surfboards. They also have an amazing pro team. But does this translate to snowboarding? Is Lib Tech a good snowboard brand?
Yes, Lib Tech is a good snowboard brand. They are known for producing high-quality, eco-friendly snowboards with innovative technology and a diverse product line-up. They also cater to most ability levels and board sizes.
But is Lib Tech really worth your hard-earned cash? Let’s take a closer look…
Who Are Lib Tech Snowboards?
Lib Tech have been around since the 1980s. Originally founded by Washington based snowboarders Mike Olson and Pete Saari, the brand now falls under the “Mervin Snowboards” umbrella.
Their boards are therefore now built at the Mervin Manufacturing facility in Sequim, Washington, USA.
Over the years, Lib Tech have built a reputation for producing high-quality snowboards… with some pretty crazy artwork.
They specialize in creating eco-friendly boards that last for years. This is definitely a plus, especially if you’re someone who cares about sustainability. You can read more about how long snowboards last here.
Another great thing about Lib Tech is their commitment to innovation. They are constantly experimenting with new materials and technologies.
This has lead to some incredible advancements in the snowboarding world, many of which have since been “borrowed” by other brands.
Lib Tech Snowboard Tech
The most well-known example of Lib Tech’s snowboard innovation is Magne-Traction.
This involves adding extra contact points along the edge of the board for better grip on hard-packed snow and ice. These aim to dig in harder and deeper than a standard straight edge board. It works!
Lib Tech also super well known for their “Banana” profile technology. This is essentially their unique term for a rocker/camber hybrid design.
These profiles are designed to combine the pop and edge hold of traditional camber, with the surfy, catch-free properties of rocker.
These days, they’ve branched out and have a variety of profile options – all of which are variations on the hybrid model.
For anyone interested, my personal favorite is the C2. It’s very similar to the profile on the Gnu Rider’s Choice (more on that here).
But all of the profiles work well. The Banana is surprisingly beginner friendly!

What Is The Best Lib Tech Snowboard?
This is a little subjective, but I knew you were going to ask!
I’ve tested dozens of Lib Tech boards over the years. My favorite is still definitely the beautiful Lib Tech T.Rice Orca. This board has absolutely exploded in popularity in recent years. And for good reason!
When legendary rider Travis Rice gives a board his stamp of approval, you know it’s gonna be good!
The Orca features Lib Tech’s C2 hybrid rocker/camber profile, magnetraction edges, and a medium flex. This creates a super responsive but playful ride.
You’ll also notice the unique directional shape and significant taper. This provides stability at high speeds and excellent float in powder.
What more could you ask for in a snowboard??
Is Lib Tech A Good Snowboard Brand For Beginners?
If you’re brand new to the snowboarding game, don’t go for a board like the Orca. But that’s not to say that Lib Tech don’t cater to beginners…
Lib Tech make some excellent snowboards for beginners, including the infamous Skate Banana. This board is forgiving, fun and gives plenty of scope for progression.
Loads of my buddies learned to ride on a Skate Banana. My brother still rides his to this day!
