Last week we discussed our brand new snowboard size calculator. Any feedback would be much appreciated!
This week we’re considering whether you should go back to the same resort.
Our group is in the process of planning a snowboard trip for this winter. The big question is, where are we going?
The current destination is Morzine (France). We’ve got a short-list of chalets to stay in; in fact, we’ve pretty much narrowed it down to one, but there’s a close second. However, most of the snowboarders involved have been to Morzine/Avoriaz three or four times before. For some, that doesn’t seem to matter. For others – they’re looking for something fresh.
Personally, I want to go to Morzine. It’s got a great selection of parks, which is always high on my list. In addition, there’s the “where to go on a powder day” question. We’re planning this as a one-week trip. Chances of getting a lot of good snow in that period are slim. In my eyes, if you do get a good dump, you don’t want to waste it making wrong turns and looking closely at the trail map.
With Morzine/Avoriaz – I already know a bunch of decent spots. They can go together to make a kind of route: start on this chair, head to that run, if it’s good, lap it twice, etc…
(If you’re interested, I’ve written more about the question of returning to the same resort – in the interest of scoring good powder turns).
So for me, it’s an easy choice. Sure I’d go to other places – but it’s like we’ve got this one sewn up. It’s ready to go, all we need to do is book.
What about you?
Do you go to the same place each season? Or continually look for new resorts? This can be a different question depending on where you live. If you’re in the UK – you’re almost certainly travelling to a different country to snowboard, so the choice can be wide open. If you live in the US, Canada, or somewhere like France or Switzerland, you may well have a local resort, maybe even a season pass…
