When it comes to choosing the perfect snowboard, riders often find themselves drawn to specific brands.

One such brand is Never Summer. I’ve been receiving heaps of emails about them recently!

But is Never Summer a good snowboard brand?

The Short Answer

Yes, Never Summer is considered a reputable snowboard brand, known for producing high-quality, durable, and innovative snowboards. Despite some influencers popularizing a trend of criticizing the brand, many in the snowboarding community continue to value Never Summer for their craftsmanship.

Not convinced?

Let’s take a look under the hood…

Best Never Summer Snowboards

The History of Never Summer

To better understand the reputation of Never Summer as a snowboard brand, let’s take a quick journey into its history.

Based out of Denver, Colorado, the brand was created in 1983 under the name Swift Snowboards. In 1991 they made the switch to the name we all known and love… Never Summer.

Never Summer therefore have decades of experience in crafting snowboards!

the history of Never Summer

The brand started as a labor of love by Tracey and Tim Canaday and their friend Scott Rolfs. They aimed to produce top-notch snowboards with unparalleled craftsmanship and performance.

Throughout the years, Never Summer has remained dedicated to its mission, and their boards have gained a very loyal following (often described as fanboys). Now, let’s explore what sets their snowboards apart from the rest.

Never Summer Snowboard Tech And Construction

One of the key factors that contribute to Never Summer’s popularity is their cutting-edge technology and construction methods. Their snowboards are manufactured in Denver, Colorado, which allows the brand to maintain strict quality control over the entire production process.

I mean, take a look at Nick Larson laying down some insane ice-carves on a standard factory issue Never Summer.

Never Summer were one of the first to employ “Rocker-Camber” profiles, combining rocker between the feet with camber zones underfoot. This enhances stability, pop, and control.

Nowadays, they’ve gone a little overboard with the vast number of RCR profiles available. Their most recent version of this is triple camber (pictured below).

It looks awfully complex, but it rides well… and that’s all that matters right?

Never Summer is also renowned for using high-quality materials and innovative designs in their snowboards.

For example, Never Summer utilizes innovative materials such as Carbon VXR laminates, which are lightweight and provide excellent torsional response, making the snowboards responsive and consistent.

Never Summer Controversy

Despite its acclaim in the snowboarding industry, Never Summer has not been immune to controversy.

Some critics argue that Never Summer, like many in the industry, could further innovate to reduce their carbon footprint and promote more eco-friendly materials and processes.

However, the more common points of contention come from certain snowboard reviewers (who shall remain nameless), whose following have popularized a trend of bashing Never Summer. Their largest criticism appears to stem from their hyperbolic use of new camber profiles such as “triple camber”.

They feel the technologies are confusing, and at times, unnecessary.

Whilst I partially understand this, marketing “new” profiles is hardly unique to Never Summer. In fact, pretty much every snowboard brand does this!

Personally… I don’t see the issue. But let me know your thoughts in the comments below.
