Let’s take a little trip down memory lane. It’s time to talk about a website we’ve all either loved, hated, or loved to hate: Angry Snowboarder.
For those of you who’ve been living under a rock (or a mound of snow) for the past few years, Angry Snowboarder was one of those iconic websites that did more than just review boards.
It was raw, unfiltered, and had a sense of humor (that wasn’t necessarily everyone’s cup of tea).
The name itself was a dead giveaway: the creator wasn’t here to sugarcoat things. Nor apologise for their viewpoints.
Personally… I found this refreshing.
But what happened to Angry Snowboarder?
What was Angry Snowboarder all about?
Well, it started out as a platform where the creators shared honest, sometimes brutally so, reviews on snowboarding gear.
But it wasn’t just about product reviews.
The site branched out into other snowboarding-related content like videos, articles on riding techniques, and even rants on various snowboarding subcultures and practices.
One of the things that really stood out about Angry Snowboarder was its unique voice. When you read a review on the site, it wasn’t like reading a typical corporate-type review.
Instead, it felt like you were listening to a (disgruntled) buddy of yours giving you the lowdown on a board they just tried out – with a sprinkle of sass and a whole lot of passion.
Origins: The Birth of Brutal Honesty
Angry Snowboarder didn’t just magically appear. It originated from a simple idea: to provide no-nonsense, brutally honest reviews of snowboarding gear. Strangely, that’s sort of how Snowboarding Days started too!
Tired of sugarcoated reviews and paid promotions, the founder created a space where fellow boarders could get the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth!
The Snowball Effect: The Journey Over The Years
Over the years, Angry Snowboarder expanded beyond just reviews. They ventured into snowboarding tutorials, event coverage, and the occasional (read: frequent) rant.
The community grew, the brand’s voice got louder, and it became a force to be reckoned with in the snowboarding world.
The Slippery Slope
But, like any journey, there were bumps (or moguls) along the way. The rise of influencer culture, increased competition from other review platforms, and the ever-changing dynamics of online algorithms posed challenges.
Some say there were internal disagreements, others speculate about potential burnout, and a few think controversies took a toll. Whatever the reasons, the updates became less frequent and the site less active.
Where Are They Now?
The most pressing question for many: What happened to Angry Snowboarder?
While the site’s golden days may be in the past, its legacy lives on. The founder has since shifted focus to video content… So, faithful fans, the brand is back, just in a different avatar. You’ll now find them over on Youtube!
