Click the link and work through the steps below to get started.
How To Start A Snowboard Blog
1. Choose A Blog Name
Your blog’s name is also going to be your blog’s domain name.
This is basically your blog’s home address on the internet.
You can choose anything you like…
For example “the snowboarding guide” could be https://www.thesnowboardinguide.com
Let’s break down the main parts of an URL:
- https:// stands for the hypertext transfer protocol
- www. is the subdomain (this is optional now, some sites don’t have it)
- The snowboarding guide is your domain name
- .com is the top-level domain (others include .net and .org)
Essential Tips For Choosing A Great Domain Name!
The domain name is your website’s identity. Therefore, you should make it informative and memorable. Make it easy for searchers!
Here are some tips to help you choose a great domain name:
- It should be unique, meaning no other blogger uses it.
- Make it short and easy to remember.
- Should ideally include the word snowboarding (makes it easier to find in google).
- Always go for the .com subdomain unless it’s taken.
- Choose a name with a broad scope to allow more diverse topics.
- Drop the numbers, hyphens, and symbols. They bring confusion and make sharing difficult.
2. Get Your Blog Online
Once you have a name, you need to get your blog online!
The best and easiest way to do this is by using a web host like Bluehost.
You only need the basic plan which starts at around $2/month.
Please don’t use “free” blog providers.
Using free blog hosting:
- Drastically reduces your ability to earn money.
- Risks being slow and glitchy
- Only saves you a couple of bucks a month
Choose Your Blog Hosting Service
- Super user friendly
- Most popular blogging platform
- Cheapest blog provider - from just $2.50 a month
- Great customer support
When signing up to Bluehost, choose either option on the landing page. Personally I recommend the wordpress option and then the cheapest “basic” package.
A web or blog host is the company that stores your blog content and makes it accessible to users. In addition, the company gives your website an IP address through which internet users can access your site.
I previously listed a bunch of different options for web hosting.
This caused unnecessary confusion.
Most of the other providers are much more expensive. Whilst some may be a little faster, you don’t need this right now. Keep your expenses low!
For this reason, I now exclusively recommend Bluehost. Save time and just get signed up.
Other Web Hosting Services
If you did want to research other hosts, it’s essential to check the following:
- Affordability: Ensure the hosting price is reasonable. If you’re a beginner, it will be difficult to start earning from your blog immediately. Free hosts are available but are not ideal. Some don’t even allow you to monetize your blog!
- Reliability: Ensure your web host is available, secure, and offers technical support. You don’t want a site that keeps going offline or takes forever to load. Technical support is crucial, especially when you get stuck. In addition, cyber-attacks are a significant threat, and you need a host that guarantees security.
- Simplicity: Setting up a blog can feel complicated, especially if you’re a beginner and not tech-savvy. Therefore, choose a host that’s easy to use and has readily available customer service.
Choose Your Blogging Platform/Software
The host is where your data is kept and served from, the blogging platform is how you build your website.
Blogging software takes raw data and delivers it to your readers in a format that they can understand.
Simply put, it helps you create and manage blog posts and make them accessible to your readers. It’s also called a content management system (CMS).
There are 100’s of options.
Just use Wordpress!
If you’re using Bluehost, you can install WordPress FREE immediately after registering your domain name.
WordPress is the most commonly used CMS; most bloggers consider it to be the most flexible and the easiest to use.
3. Customize Your Blog
Customizing a blog isn’t a one-day affair.
You’ll add and remove things as you progress.
For starters, you can add the basics such as the home page, about me/us page, and then the contact me/us page. Additionally, you can have a disclaimer page, privacy policy, and terms of service.
You can change the theme if you like; WordPress has excellent themes that you can use without much effort.
If you’re finding this tricky, you can pay someone on Fiverr to design the initial stages for you. This is also a great crash course if you need a little nudge to get started.
4. Add Informative and Engaging Content
Once your blog is up and running, it’s time to add content!
Ensure you craft catchy and engaging snowboarding posts. Whichever topics you choose, be as informative as possible.
If you’re looking to grow readership, you’ll need to dig through google for unanswered questions or low competitoon topics. I’ll do another post on how to do this if there’s enough demand for it.
Be unique!
Much as I love you all, I’d rather you don’t copy my content. I worked real hard on it!
It’s also not a good idea. The big G (Google) knows who posted it first. Be as original and unique as you can for the best chances of success.
Other tips:
- Pictures can enhance your posts when used appropriately. You can use free (royalty free) images from the internet, but original photos are better.
- If you haven’t published your blog yet, you can launch it after adding content.
- Aim for 500-1000 words per post initially. Go longer for more competitive topics.
5. Promote Your Blog
Now that you have a fully functional blog, it’s time to let people know about it.
You can start with your friends, family, and neighbors.
Next, try and get some guest posts on other blogs to gain experience and exposure.
Guest post on Snowboarding Days: Drop me an email with an article idea. As long as it’s original and well written, I’ll pop it on the site with a link to your new blog!
Social media is another great way to market your blog.
Ensure you post links to your work and invite people to read, like, comment, share, and subscribe.
Additionally, you can target snowboarding groups on social media and those you interact with daily. It would also help to update your blog regularly to keep your readers engaged.
Final Thoughts
Hopefully that explains how to start a snowboard blog.
Snowboarding is an excellent niche for a blog!
You have a wide range of exciting topics to cover, especially if you’re passionate about the sport.
You can also do product reviews and get lots of sneaky free gear, which is a perk I enjoy thoroughly (my wife less so).

I just started mine on blogger – would you recommend moving to wordpress?
Hey. Congrats! I much prefer wordpress but each to their own.
Just make sure you’re using a self-hosted domain! (otherwise you’ll struggle to earn much down the line)
super helpful, which host do you recommend?
